the quintessential alpine loden overcoat. the "tirol" was designed to help austrian men comfortably get through the harsh winter while looking respectable at the same time.
key features that have come to define the loden style were originally very functional in nature. for example the full length back pleat gave the wearer a greater range of motion which also allowed them to add layers underneath the overcoat without restricting movement. in addition, the two discreet slits sewn into the waist of the coat allow easy access to the pant pockets or cartridge belt. and of course, the alpine sleeves, (sewn opening in the underarm) also give the wearer full arm movement for climbing or hunting and extra ventilation.
while you might not need all these features everyday, they make the tirol a truly special overcoat that will last 30 years or more.
the overcoat is sized to be worn over-a-coat, but can also be worn over a sweater or blazer with room to spare. if you don't intend to layer, we recommend ordering one size smaller than your suit jacket size.

the tirol is unlined which makes it very versatile. simply layer a jacket or sweater as needed. it is medium weight fabric, not heavy weight.
