For centuries Alpine communities relied on the incredible fabric known colloquially in English as 'boiled wool' but in german known as 'walk' (pronounced valk). Walk is made by loosely knitting pure wool and then putting it through a long wet finishing or fulling & felting process known in german as 'walken' (pronounced valken).
Long-held in high esteem by the fashion-conscious folk in Europe, traditional boiled wool is an amazing fabric that has finally made its way to our shores in recent years in the form of fine designer coats and jackets. Mainly used for topnotch vests, jackets, and coats, boiled wool is incredibly strong and exceedingly resilient, allowing designer garments made from this unique fabric to stretch with movement, yet excellently retain their shape over the years.
Our boiled wool is made by the Austrian mill 'Gottstein' located deep in the Alps. They use a technique that has been handed down and refined throughout the ages; this distinctive fabric is made of natural wool fibers that are first knitted, then processed free of chemicals. The result is a light, supple fabric soft to the skin, minus the itchiness of regular wool and regulates your temperature for super comfort.
If you want to experience the cozy feel of authentic 'valk' and wear a piece that has a story to tell, try one of our boiled wool sweater jackets. They will serve you well for many, many years.
